Just starting out - advice needed Hi, I am just starting out. I have bought myself a 15ft powered boat. I am wondering where would be a good place to launch on my first trip? Im looking for somewhere near brighton. I have also heard that you might need insurance to use slipways, is this true? Where/how would I go about getting this? Cheers, Adam

Re: Just starting out - advice needed I would suggest that you sign up for some course on boat handling, sorry f you are experienced, but it really us worth it, RNLI run some. then try to meet up with others who will be on the water at the same time. Maybe I'm over cautious, but the sea is very powerful. Oh, welcome to the forum. __________________ Ignore the margins at your peril

Re: Just starting out - advice needed Thanks for your advise, I'll have a look into that course. It could be very useful. Do you know anything about insurance. I don't need to insure the boat, I just heard you need insurance if your using public slipways?

Re: Just starting out - advice needed you will need to insure the boat just in case for example your driving down the M25 and a lorry takes you out, your CAR insurance will cover your car but wont cover the boat. also if your boat sinks or gets hit by another boat etc. def worth having as its only about 75 quid.

Re: Just starting out - advice needed Just a quick post to anyone wanting to save a few quid on their boat insurance, I actually didn't insure with them in the end (my boat's over 20 years so they wanted a survey!) but used their information to good effect with one of their competitors and saved myself £25.. Anyway here's the link, tells you what they factor in to get a cheaper boat insurance quote so worth a visit http://www.merciamarine.co.uk/boat_i...e_article.aspx I suggest (worked for me anyway)!
