Dungeness sat 19/03/10

Well i finally decided on going fishing to Dunge last night with my brother-in-law. I was originaly gonna fish for Thornies over the Isle of sheppy but the local reports were bad, then i considered The ady at Dover but the size of the tide would have made holding bottom nigh on impossible. Fishing conditions were not good, there was a slight easterly blowing and the moon was that bright im supprised i`ve not got moontan!!!! Just as we arrived we saw several people who were on there was home from a comp and they told us that it had been won on a bag on rockling so it was not looking good. I fished with a 3/0pennel rig and set my bro up with a 3 hook flapper and we must have caught 20-30 pin whiting and a few rocking. Baits were blow and black lug, squid and i also tried using the smallest of whiting about 20 yards out for bass. I was fishing just in front of the powerstation and fished from 8.30-2.00. On my way back to the car i was told by someone that a few small codling were caught on the point but it was also difficult to hold bottom and that they lost a load of gear so quite pleased i avoided the hassle as they were only around 1lb.

It was good to get out though and my bro-in-law is starting to understand why I go fishing now so wants me to find him a cheap rod and reel. Can`t wait for the weather to warm up a little bit and the crabs to start to peel. Bring on the summer and the fish that come with it!!!

Tight lines all

Joe

great report mate.. glad the bro in law is getting into it .. just in time for him to pick it up before the season really begins !
when we fished selsey last year there was a fella from your neck of the woods down with us and had about 50 fotos of thornies caught - he fished with a well known match angler whos names escapes me ! All from the shore and all bloody huge too ...
