Dungeness Fri Night (01-10-10)

Having not been fishing for months i decided that it was time to wet a line. After consulting this forum and checking the weather forcast out i had originaly decided on fishing over low water at deal on sat night due to the northerly breeze that was being forecast.

Come friday and the wind changed direction and started blowing WSW and spotting a supposed break in the weather forecast for midnight i decided to go for it and to fish dungeness. After quickly ringing round the bait shops at 5pm i managed to get hold of 3 score of common lug and the into Tesco for 2 "Giant Squid". I would have rather had some Blacks but they were all booked out and i didnt reckon that the locals would want me knocking on their doors late in the eve asking for bait!!!

I arrived at dungeness at 10.45 for low water and decided to fish the point. It was still blowing a gale and was still raining which was very pleasant but there was a big surf running so i was happy with my choice.

I decided that i would run a pulley rig with a 4/0 , 2/0 hook set up and try for some codling, loaded up with about 6 worm and a healthy lump of squid and lobbed it out

After about 10mins or so there was that familiar knocking of a whiting and i reeled in a small one. This pattern repeated itself all night long but i thought with the chance of bass they would make good livebaits so persevered with it, keeping the larger ones for tea

The rain did eventually let up at about 2 am and i hooked into something with a bit of weight but my bloody leaderknot gave way so i will never know if it was a codling or not!!!

Stayed at the beach till 4.00am when a load of weed came along so i called it a night and went home

Going to try again in a few weeks and i will let you all know how it works out

Tight Lines

Joe

Re: Dungeness Fri Night (01-10-10)

What a brave soul you are, not nice @ the ness in a gale, great report though, and those larger whiting are a tasty bonus, fillet and put into batter yummy, this weekend should be a good one, big big tides a bit of wind to put some colour in the water, and dunge may well throw up a few coddies inshore , at Hythe on the 9th in a club comp myself and cannot ait to get at them so might well try the 8th as well lol
