Wader is on a distinguished road
Question Fixed to multiplier

I have two rods ringed for fixed spool. Would it upset the performance of the rod if I was to ring them for multiplier reels.
Looking forward to some good winter fishing. All the best catches to you all.
John

Re: Fixed to multiplier

Hi John
the answer is almost certainly yes.
But by how much?? - I'm not sure that I would be able to tell the difference.
A tackle tart would certainly complain about the finish of the rod with all the rings being removed and respaced.
Am sure others who have tried it will chip in with more

Re: Fixed to multiplier

Never heard of that terminology Wader, do you mean the rod eyes are spaced for fixed spool casting only? I try to learn something new everyday.

Normally rods rung for a fixed spol reel have a completely different set of eyes on them mate..
Because the line comes off a fixed spool reel in big circles the first eye is large enough not to hinder the line as it passes through., whereas a multiplier sends line off the spool in a straight line so the eyes can be much smaller all the way up .
spacing is important but generally both types have more or less the same amount of eyes - perhaps one or two more on a multiplier version of the same rod - you will also find that cheap crappy rods have cheap eyes badly spaced and there aren't enough on them to follow the arc of the rod when line passes through the eyes
Unless you are a rod builder i would say no as the time and effort plus the cost involved outweigh keeping the blanks ..
