Hi Paul
Could you give me any pointers on Broadstairs at this time of year. Going shore fishing with some workmates next week but we're all novices

Re: kent

hello mate,welcome to the forum,
i havn't fished broadstairs,i must admit it wouldn't be my first choice,i wouldn't advise going there on the rocks if you are novices,
i have been down there bait collecting many years ago and those rocks are a bit dodgy, don't know about the beach or pier,
i would advise a nice safe pier or beach for novices, deal pier or princess parade hythe spring to mind, nice safe fishing platform not too many snags but still with a chance of catching a lunker.
i think these sort of venues are ideal for gaining experience and honing your skills,
get used to fishing in all conditions day and night and then work your way up to the more challenging venues,
having said that,i wish you all the best in your fishing, feel free to ask any questions,no matter how silly it may sound,
if you need to know any more about venues around here just shout

Re: kent

Hi Paul
That was pretty crap. I can see why people don't fish there. Crabs are murder, they're like Pirhanas. We fished the shore day time. Broadstairs pier night, Ramsgate harbour wall afternoon to dusk. If we had been on a specimen hunt for a aquarium we'd have been made up. We had baby cod, ling, bass, place, dab, whiting and a tiny monkfish.
The big problem was the crabs though. We where getting bigger knocks from them than the fish. I think the next trip will be to Portsmouth as my missus is from there or Chesil Beach. Actually seeing as I live on a boat on the Thames, maybe I'll have a little specimen hunt here.
Thanks for your advice

Re: kent

hello mate, havn't heard much ,i believe there are a few schoolie bass and the odd eel and flat,
you could do a lot better by getting down to deal pier, its fishing very well lately, there have been a lot of smoothies and doggies plus all the other usual species,
check out the reports by another forumite - creedy,he has caught some good fish and put in some very good reports
best of luck wherever you go mate.
