Question Peterhead area sea fishing

Peterhead area shore fishing - Hi I have a very go chance of going up to peterhead in the second week in august

Anyone know how it will be fishing as its been years since I have been up there

Normally would go off peterhead outer and inner harbour arms , rattery head and the beach by the power station

Is cruden bay any good ( was poor last time up there )

So any help would be great plus if anyone knows of easy bait digging would be of help or is there a tackle shop in peterhead now that does bait

Willing to have a little drive around ( 1 hour ) and if anyone fancies a fish well im your man

Re: Peterhead area sea fishing

Right now the south breakwater is still a bit slow but by mid august it should be in full flow. I was fishing the rocks up by Slains last week - lots of hand sized dabs and a couple of larger plaice.

The old tackle/bike shop in Peterhead closed down but there's supposed to be one at - Hook Line & Sinker, 1 Skelton Street, Peterhead, Tel. - 01779 475006 which I've never used so can't comment.

There are some mussel beds exposed at low tide.

Let me know nearer the time and i'll give you an update.

Talking Re: Peterhead area sea fishing

i have heard/ been told that in the right conditions that the beach at the power station can produce some nice bass, but i have never tried for them, but you never know.
looking forward to hearing from you, if you need bait and can't get in peterhead, then there are two shops in aberdeen that supply lug/rag, etc, etc
Summers - lug, rag, squid, mackeral, mussels, etc. a wee bit pricy but their worms are v good quality
There is a shop on george street i can't remember the name they sell rag and lug, the rag is good but the lug is poor but cheaper than summers.
i use summers, the extra money is worth it

Re: Peterhead area sea fishing

august, the mackerel will be in full flow especially the sea-side of the south pier. half way down there is a "big hole" about 50 yards out which carries the cod. leave your bait in too long and you will get the inevitable granny fish.
its often marked by pot buoys but its quite big so any cast should put you in it if there,s no-one about to pinpoint it for you.
baitwise, the mackerel in strips will catch anything at this time of year but frozen bait can be bought from hook, line and sinker, which is behind the safeway store on the main drag.hey carry a good selection of tackle and can tell you whats catching and where.
go down the road to safeway but don,t go into the car park, go down to the junction beside grampian steel buildings and turn left and its on your left hand side.
the new pier will get you dabs from the turret out into the bay and the north side will get codling if conditions are right, a bit rocky though, especially through the gap in the breakwater.
have a good time, there will be lots out on an evening time on the south pier and here,s hoping theres not too many supply ships in at asco at the time.
guiness is good 4 u, take it as part of your 5 a day

Re: Peterhead area sea fishing

Hi Richard.

If you are there for a week, don't forget the River Ugi ( I am sure thats the spelling). August normally sees a good run of Salmon and Sea Trout up the river. The cost is or at least was minimal. I used to fish it every day of the summer holidays and every weekend when I was a lad.
Oh what fond memories. I would love to return if for just one day!
