Stirling

Hello all! I have lived in a few countries but was in aberdeen for 9 years, and I fished for trout then. I recently came back to scotland, now in Stirling. Having lived in the Caribbean though, and experienced some powerful powerful fish, I don't think I can go to the tiddlers that call themselves fish - stocked rainbow trout. They really don't fight at all, most of them. Also having tasted more of the sport side of fishing rather than the tranquil relaxation side, I don't think I can go back to fly fishing. Plus fly fishing is expensive!!

A lot of fishermen say "oh i dont mind if i catch or not - as long as i'm out with nature enjoying the scenery" or something similar. Although yes, being in the outdoors and on the water is indeed a nice experience, when I go fishing, I go to catch fish! The more the better!! Serious fish that pull back! None of these stocked trout that give up after 1 pathetic run that I thwart with 6lb line!

So if there is anyone around Stirling, Stirlingshire, Falkirk, Glasgow, or anywhere within, say, a £6 train fare that appreciates fishing in a similar way to myself, give me a shout! Whatever kind of fish you guys are after, I'd love to join you! I MISS FISHING!!

PS. I like the look of sea bass fishing a lot... especially from boat.

Re: Stirling

Dave you say you want to catch fish the more the better, dont you put back your fish when you have caught 1or 2. It sounds like your only going out to try and catch as many as poss and not in to fishing for the enjoyment.

Re: Stirling

Well I'm kinda insulted by that. "Don't you put back the fish after you have caught 1 or 2"... well it depends what I catch. Most fish I caught in the caribbean were good to eat, so naturally I put back the ones I wasnt going to eat. Tomorrow I am going for pike, so of course I will put them back. If I were going for trout.. same thing - I'd put back what I didnt intend on eating. I don't know what I wrote in my post that gave you the idea that I don't practice catch and release, but in fact it gives me great satisfaction to see a fish glide out of my hands and back into the depths.

As for your suspicion that I'm "not fishing for the enjoyment"... well whats enjoyable for you may not be enjoyable for me. You may enjoy vegetating on a riverside with a swimfeeder laying lonely on the riverbed for hours without a bite... beautiful as the scenery may be, thats not what I go fishing for. I fish for beasts that, pound for pound, bite hard and run hard. I fish to see tha beauty up close and personal - fish, as I'm sure you agree, are amazing creatures.. if only to look at after it's been landed.

*laughs* and whats wrong with "the more the better" or "wanting to catch as many as poss"?
