Trying to catch me a Cod

Hello, can anyone help me. I am new to fishing but have completely fallen in love with it.

I am trying really hard to fish for something other than little pollock. I managed to catch quite a few off the rocks at dunnottar castle a few weeks ago, but no such luck since. I have also been a few times to Slains castle cruden bay, and yesterday cove bay, but i am just having no luck.

I have just been bought a new fishing rod for my birthday and am dying to catch some cod with it . The guy in the fishing shop gave my boyfriend all the stuff he said i'd need to catch a cod, but still i haven't had any luck.

What am i doing wrong?

Any advice would be much appreciated

Re: Trying to catch me a Cod

Don't always trust tackle dealers lol...especially when it comes to bait as some of them like to sell you what they think you want not what you need...
Besides "all the gear to catch a cod" would probably catch you rather a few species around there..
Am not too familiar with the area but the best advice i could give you is to use the best bait you can get hold of and fish in crappy blowy weather when the fish tend to get brave and move inshore..
Lugworm/peeler crab cocktails or big pennel rigged squid are worth a try but just make sure whatever you use its nailed to the sea bed !
On the point of doing summit wrong , if yer fishing and others are catching codling around you then you MAY be doin summit different .
Always chat to locals on the beach and look for local match results or even better look for a local club where you will gain invaluable information and no doubt meet loads of other folk tryin to catch there tea

ok, thanks very much. I think i'll buy some lugworm. Looks like i'll be wrapping up warm and taking my flask in preparation for some cold weather. 'If at first you don't succeed...'
