Conger quest Hi everyone just joined today, looking forward to trading a few fishing secrets and hot spots but first i'm going to ask for a favour. ![]() I'm heading up to loch long at the weekend and am keen to try my luck at some conger fishing as i heard it was still good up that way? I have heard of a mark conger alley and am fairly familiar but just wondering how far to cast out to target these snakes? Also heard fishing was good at the old submarine pens does anyone know where they are? And again how far out from the shore and depth you are likely to catch? Any info would be greatly appreciated. ![]() ![]()

Re: Conger quest Hi there, the old submarine pens i think your after are on the A814 between Portincaple and Glenmallan. There is another navy pier north of Glenmallan but not sure if this is part of the Navy torpedo range. Try http://maps.google.co.uk and zoom in on loch long using the satellite view. Hope this helps and tight lines.

Re: Conger quest Thanks a lot really appreciate the help. Fished loch long last week at conger alley and no joy. Seems a bit difficult from the shore, was thinking about taking up scuba diving so i can see what's going on underneath. Fished loch Fyne last night; caught a few dogfish and a small pollack and had a few good takes but straight into a snag. Was wet very cold and gusty but nice to be fishing and not getting another blank. cheers again, Tight Lines

Re: Conger quest you should try anywhere along the shore between arrochar and portincaple , most of the known hotspots are overfished and the conger will be in the less fished areas, dont cast too far and always fish a rotten bottom rig with a big bubble float between the lead and the hook lengh, i.e 50lb mono mainline to 3 way swivel , 10 lb 6 inch rotten bottom from swivel , 3o lb 1 foot leader mono to bubble float then ten inch wire trace and desired bait , float keeps bait away from crabs and snags , rotten bottom allows the obvious , btw best times are just before a thunder storm , the electric air seems to reli noise them up .best baits are pollock head , cod head or half mackerel , bunch ob sardines is best for late season . ![]()

Re: Conger quest HI lorryman the pier at glen mallon has a clone in arrochar it is opposite teighness stores in arrochar. and a public slip is up at the head of the loch access is from the new car park but its only usable when tide is in I have used I often only bummer is idiots often park across access I have applied for a mooring at arrochar so I will only use a slip twice a year
