Loch Carron/Duich

Hoping to go fishing at Loch Carron or Loch Duich on friday. Not sure where yet. Never fished Carron before so will probably end up at my old marks on Duich.

Shall report back on how i get on.

Re: Loch Carron/Duich

Weather: Odd fine rain shower with slight breeze.
Tides: Low tide - 10:10 High tide - 18:20
Sea condition: Smooth

Went fishing over Loch Duich on the west coast today. What a day. Best days fishing from the shore i have ever had.

It all started of badly when i went onto auto pilot and missed my turning towards Loch Duich. Instead of going down the side of Loch Ness i ended up near to Dingwall before i clicked onto where i was.

But after a few seconds at looking at the map i decide to continue on the Ullapool road and turn off towards Loch Carron. Well whilst i am in the area i can check out other marks right?

Found the avalanche shelter at Loch Carron. Looks deep but snaggy. Parking places are far a few between as well. From there the road around to Loch Duich is erm.... twisty and steep.

Got to Loch Duich and found a spot i aint tried yet. Started fishing about 08:45.
Didn't keep track of times when i caught but there was a deffinate slack period around low tide where nothing was getting caught.

Apart from the slack periods there was plenty to keep my busy.
I was using mackerel, squid, razorfish and sand eel on the beachcaster and was using mackerel look alike and silver spinners on the spinning rod.

Throughout the day i was continually catching pollock and coalfish. Also got cod, mackerel and a conger on the spinner

Well technically i didn't catch the conger. It caught me. I was bringing in a small coalie (i think) and about a foot from the surface this thing appeared and took the fish, spinner and some line. It scared the living doo dars outta me. The guy next to me just said... 'You've been congered'. It was about 3/4 meter long i think. Still scares me thinking about it.

All in all a cracking day with loads caught.

Species list: Pollock x 15+ , Coalfish x 10+ , Codling x 4 (Two on spinners), Thornback x 1, Dogfish x 1, Mackerel x 2, Coger x 1 (i gotta count it as a catch honest ), Crab x 1, Octipuss x 1, Starfish x 1
