Talking Day One Peterhead breakwater

Peterhead Breakwater - started at 10.30 after a quick visit to the local tackle shop for bait . They do not have worm till friday but managed to get squid and frozen peeler so was more than happy

Started to fish the south breakwater with 3 hrs to go till high tide . The weather was let just say scottish as every 10 mins is would change from howling gals to the tropics

Anyway the outer wall did not produce with only one stronge take which I missd because I was chatting There was a sea lion wworking the area all day

So With high tide on the turn decided to see what fishing into the harbour would do . Fishing size 3 hooks / 5 x 5mm yellow beads and strips of squid on flowing trace on one rod and the peeler on the other ( the peeler was very poor )

Had plenty of flat fish upto a 1lb and a few coalfish which was great to get loads of bites and fish . The wind was a problem

Peterhead harbour is massive with the south arm inner side being 60 plus foot deep and only needing to cast 30 yrds to clear the rocks if you fish into the harbour

If you fish out into the sea then you need to fish 60yrd ish to clear the rocks on to clean ground

Would still be fishing tonight but have to do family things which is a shame

Tomm game plain is to hit the power station outlet area near peterhead and see if there are bigger flat fish and maybe the odd bass

Hope this post makes sense as this screen is tiny

Happy fishing Richard,
feel sure there's a local pub if the fishing isn't too good.

Re: Day One Peterhead breakwater

Ah Richard this takes me back to my childhood where I cut my teeth on fishing all around Peterhead.
I remeber catching Codling from the side on the breakwater wall using what would be now called a mini pirk or bar. The Mackerel never normaly turned up until late summer and it was always possible to get a Haddock. I know that there has been a recent resurgance of the Haddock stocks.

If you head down to Buchanhaven you can get some nice Red Cod out of the kelp there, but you need strong tackle.

The river Ugi, whilst only small has a nice head of Sea Trout and Salmon. It is fantastic to watch them leap out of the water trying to dislodge the sea lice.
Not sure how the river fishes now, but it was very cheap to fish.
