Burghead 28/9/09

Decided to get out for a few hours despite the weather today. Was going to try on Friday but too windy and was busy Sat and Sun
The day got off to a bad start when I went to pick up some leads from the local tackle shop, only to discover it was closed today (only got one in Elgin) Headed through to Forres and got some from the shop there instead then headed to Findhorn bay to try for some Lug, but as expected with virtually no tide there wasn't much sand to dig After 3/4 hour and only half a dozen stringy wee lug add that to the rain, I'd had enough and headed to Burghead Harbour. Was glad I'd some mackies and Prawns at least for bait!

Got set up with the beachcaster and the wee spinning rod which I'd taken to try for a wrasse. I used a cocktail of Lug/mackie and prawn on a pulley rig. The wind was howling NWN plus rain and right in my face so didn't manage to cast very far with the big rod And when I did cast it ended in the odd birdsnest but nothing too serious (still getting used to a multi) Bite detection was very dificult due to the strong wind so set the ratchet and drag in hope of something. I more or less dropped down the side with the wee rod and caught a wee coalie after 10 mins, pretty small but least I hadn't blanked
Caught another 3 after that but they weren't any bigger. Nothing on the big rod but my bait was getting eaten alright probably crabs.

I'd been fishing about 3 hours maybe and the dreaded weather started to deteriate quite a bit after that so decided to pack up and head home. Not the most productive session, but the conditions really couldn't have been any worse, Good to get out though and much better than sitting at home with the good lady and suffering Jeremy Kyle or something on the telly.
