Thumbs up Inverbervie 22/11/08

Second weekend in a row that the wife let me out to go fishing. She must be after something

After consulting Bigads i was going to try New Aberdour beach. So set off with high hopes and a full belly of home made soup.

Turn off the main road towards New Aberdour and seen the drifting snow across the road. Sod that. Not risking getting trapped down there. So turned around and decided to head to another mark i know of near to Stonehaven. After a slow journey thatnks to drivers not knowing how to drive in wintery conditions i turned off the main route towrads the next mark. Half way down i came up behind a slow car again, just as we started to hit drifting snow. Instead of keeping his speed up he hit the brakes and came to a stop. I had to stop behind him and therefore we were now BOTH stuck. What a numpty. I called him alot worse but the wear filter won't let me type it

Luckily a farmer was watching us and came over with his tractor to pull us out.

That put pays to this next mark. So i set off for Inverbrevie instead.

Arrived there and noticed quite a few people fishing. Probably about 10 people in all.

I decided to set up on the right side of the beach but not in my usual spot as that was taken. Moved down towards the end of the beach . Started fishing and all i got was weed and lots of it. Nearly lost the rod and tripod at one stage.

As time went on people left the right side of the beach. So i moved up into my fave spot.

Started fishing and was suprised to find very little weed about. Missed a few bites and didn't land anything up til high tide.

After high tide i got my first fish. A small 2.5lb coddling taken on squid and razorfish. Nice condition and went back to fight another day.

Nothing else until an hour after high tide. Then wham... big slack line.

Hit it and reeled in like made when waves/rollers allowed. I weasn't losing this one.

Landed it and the result is.....

... a nice 6lb cod Taken on squid heads.

It was weighed in the carpark by some bloke who was there and his scales said 5lb 2oz. But i have a few scales at home and they all say 6lb so i'm dead chuffed.

Decided that after that fish it was far too cold to be standing around much longer so i packed up, wiped the frost off my tackle box and headed home for a well deserved hot chocolate.

Excellent day out dispite getting trapped behind some ejit. I should do it more often.
