| I promised myself no fishing today, in order to organise stuff in the nest instead...but... After feeling rather grim I decided that to drag myself down to the shore would probably do the trick. Calling passed the local local shop foir locals I stopped in and grabbed a few weights to make up for the lost one yesterday. I was just beginnig to get bored when of course I landed really close in a huge mackerel catch of the day. Of course it was all just a tease tho and I got a few little tiddlers before moving on. No sooner did I hit the second spot and I caught a second laviathan to compliment the first, along with a few other respectable little fish. All in all it wa a good very hot sunday in the sun with some great catches, but at spot number one I was just about to quit and move when 'Ooooo fish fish!'...I started to reel...snap! the reel handle broke! It was a new reel that I oly got the other day too bundled with one of my new rods...damn cheap and cheerful stuff, that's well off tho, I thik I should probably complain. The final irony that I just sent an e-mail on a whim the other day to the shop thanking them for the stuff. Typical eh, the moment you open your mouth...So with what felt like a great fish on the end I had not even a little stump of a handle to wind it in with and the whole process was a mild headache on an otherwise fine day. Finally I managed to reel in fairly close and fortunately the fish had slipped off again at that point as then the imminent garunteed weed tangle came and took the rig and all. Damn. I perseveered tho and moved on to some good fish later. Luckily I had a spare reel in the box but being a bit small it only just fit in the clasps on the big rackerel rod. Ohh yes, apparently Adrian at the local local shop said nobody had been catching anything, but they've all just been using the wrong kit. I've noticed on days the tourists have been out along the breakwater much as today they're all using little lures. Occasionally they might get lucky, but I've tried them and they don't seem to do it for me. The moment I moved on to a string of nice reflective tinsely bits on a string...bingo. I did my good deed for the day by letting on to some people accross the way from me later, a father and two sons team all not doing very well. The elder son switched to a mackerel rig same as mine and instantly he had five on the line. Good to tawk innit. They were a bit sparce today, but the two big ones were the biggest yet. I've always found that the sparkley tinseley rig with a good chunky weight on the end and some good casting works every time here. Now I'm knackered and I have to get on with that days home chilling I planned before I went out. Later alligators. Ohh I brought them home un-gutted today too, I'm going to try my hand at filleting! Wish me luck. Saw a vid somewhere a while ago, easier with whole fish, I'm sure I can find it again... |
