Red face Loch Duich 05/07/08

HW: 0930
Weather: Sunny with slight breeze
Bait: Mackerel, Squid, Razorfish, Mussel

Travelled over to Duich North shore today. Beat most of the tourists so not too bad time getting over there.

Set up at one of the rock mounds inbetween Inverinate and Dornie. Just after i had cast out a pod of Porpoises appeared and messed around in front of me for about 45 mins. I should have packed up as soon as they appeared but it was great to watch them.

They eventually went off up the loch and i started fishing again. Got nothing for an hour so decided to move.

Moved to the hump nearest Dornie and again set up. Couple of casts later with the spinning rod i had a mackerel. Nice size and nice fresh bait. A couple of other people arrived and started spinning too. They all got some mackerel. Just as it started warming up with the fish it died straight off. Guess what turned up. Yep the porpoises. Oh well. I went off again and this time went to another mark i know on Lochalsh. Again set up and fished for about 2 hours. In that time i got 2 small pollock and 3 coalfish. Nothing of decent size though.

Packed up for a bit and went for a wonder around to find some new marks. Found a few possible places and have marked them for a return lol.

On way back home again i stopped off at the nearest hump to Dornie again and had another spin. Two more mackerel which are now filleted and sitting in my freezer.

Caught nothing with the baited rod all day. Could be because it was so hot and bright but i'm not sure. Still had an excellent day out and cracking weather. Watching the porpoises was the highlight of the day.

Sounds a decent session Al, even if it was tough going.
