Loch Linnhe / Nth Ballachulish

Weather/Wind: Clear but overcast. Very slight breeze
Sea State: Calm and clear water
Bait: Squid, Sand eel, Mackerel, Razorfish
Tide: HW @ 16.00

Decided to head over the west coast this time and try a mark that i haven't been to before. Trip across was slowed down by "sunday drivers". No further comment needed on that i think.

Set up at the Loch Linnhe mark and bait was in the water for 13.10.

Had a take after about 45 mins which looked like a doggie., but i lost it in kelp about 30 yrds out. At least it showed there was something about.

An hour later i got another bite. Reeled in a nice doggie about 2lb in weight. Ten mins later i was reeling in again. This time a small thornback ray. Small but still welcome. After that nothing happened. All i was doing was feeding the crabs.

I think this mark could be productive in the summer and at night. Will have to give it another go later in the year.

With nothing happening i decided to head down to North Ballachulish slipway for an hour or so.

The tide was ripping through and there was no way i was going to be able to hold the bottom so i had to fish on the fringes. With the aid of my headlight i could see the many many crabs and small coalies moving in and about the kelp next to the slipway. Was cool watching them go about their business.

Only fish i caught was a first for me. A short spined sea scorpian. Was wondering at first how to actually unhook one but remembered someone saying off the forum that you hold them by the mouth. Well it worked and i was dead chuffed at getting one. That's another species to add to my list.

All in all a cracking day and good to get out. Can't wait for the meet next weekend now. Bring on the turbot.
