Thumbs up Achiltibuie Pier / Lossiemouth Breakwater

Planned a trip to fish Achiltibiue Pier from LW up and over HW. Weather kind of scuppered that idea but i still tried.

Weather/Wind. Cloudy with showers. Breezey with strong gusts
Sea State. Choppy
Bait. Bluey, Squid, Mackerel and mussel
Tide. HW @ 18.30

Set off from Dingwall at 9.00 and arrived after a tourist ridden drive at just before 11.00

Wind was ok at this point. Set up and was fishing by 11.20. Ground is semi snaggy but strong mainline pulls through. Was only casting about 70 yrds out.

Caught first doggie about an hour into session. Nice fish of about 2lb. Went straight back. 15 mins later i had first thornback. Good clean fish that really pulled against the tide. Cast back out and within 5 mins i was bringing in another thornie. Same sort of size as last one (wasn't same one though).

After that it went a bit quiet. During the fishnig the win was getting up more and it was becomning harder to spot bites on the rod.

I stopped fishing and had something to eat whilst a boat unloaded on the pier.

When the boat left i resumed fishing. Had nothing for about 30 mins and then i after then i had 4 doggies one after the other.

All fish at this time were caught on Bluey and squid. Nothing touched the mackerel. I decided that the wind was getting too much and i was fed up of checking my kit every two mins.

Packed up and decided that the east coast would be a better option. So set off for Lossiemouth.

Arrived at Lossie and set up inbetween the numerous feather chuckers. I was just fishing for the flatties.
Had no bites but the crabs were well fed. They were really out in force and were a real pain.

After the feather chuckers left i decided to do a bit of spinning too. The coalfish were playing around and i landed loads of them. All were under the 1lb size but on light tackle were a joy to catch and release.

Also got 5 mackerel during the session and are now nicely sat in the fridge and freezer.

Highlight of the evening was when 3 bottle nosed dolphins came next to the harbour and started chasing the mackerel. They were beautiful to watch and just capped of a decent day.

Finished fishing at 10.00 and went home for a well deserved drink.
