Re: Fuerte Ventura tips Anybody

If it was me i would try to watch the natives and see what bait they were using and copy suit .
a small drilled bullet lead with a trace around 6 ft tied to a hook around 2/0 should be a good starting point .
If you find your getting plenty hits or the bait is being stripped then drop the hook size and bait or if you know there are some bigger specimens about then try snagging one of the smaller fish and present it as a live bait.
I know this isnt info specific for the particular mark but it might get you amongst the fish

good luck either way mate

Re: Fuerte Ventura tips Anybody

failing that i just googled fuerteventura fishing and got around 1.5 million hits

i.e -

The three photos show 4 bonita tuna (Sarda sarda) and a barracuda, a bluefish and a brace of Garfish. They were all caught fishing from the rocks in the Caleta de Fuste area of Fuerteventura.

They can also be caught using jigs (soft body rubber fish) or spinners (conventional or specialized new ones such as metalic sardines & artificial minnows, or a combination of spinner & rubber fish in one lure). Success rate is also good with live bait (boga) or dead bait (sardine). Boga is caught relatively easily by fishing with a variety of baits & methods (jigging with small pieces of squid or float fishing with small treble hooks & paste).

Crab is the best bait when fishing for Parrotfish. Squid and prawns are the number one bait for all other species (bottom feeders such as the Breams, Snappers, Blacktail Combers, Rays, Small Sharks, Angel Fish, Scorpion Fish, etc).

Re: Fuerte Ventura tips Anybody

Thanks for that scottish - guess you mean sink & draw / spinning tactics rather than static fishing (though static could be an option to try)
I agree though - can't beat a bit of LOCAL knowledge for a head start.
Don't really want to catch any sting rays though - had a very nasty exp' in Mexico - got hit in the hand when unhooking a small one (My fault of course - stingrays do what stingrays do) Hurt like hell for days aftwerwards & cost me £80 @ the hotel medical centre, so will be trying not to fish HARD on bottom.

Yes - thanks again - wifes already shown me this & getting very excited now - there's a very good tackle shop there too so will be able to MAN UP my gear a bit if i get trashed.
Think 18lb Mono' worth a try initially though (+ iv'e got 25 - 30lb wire traces as well - will suck it & see)

Re: Fuerte Ventura tips Anybody

lol, what give the you the rod for you to land it, or panic, sounds like the perfect partner for fishing.
my other 'arf used to fish our freshwater club and open matches as well, still has better kit than me, held up well in the matches to, even with the open comp. anglers.

gets expensive when you both want top gear, baits, and entrance fee's.

good fun though, more rivalry when fishing, keeps me on my toes.
