Re: high tides

neap tides are generally better on beaches with a big tide run as it gives a bigger window to fish and hold bottom..
Springs can offer the best sport as the tide pushes more food around but can also mean holding bottom and weed can be a problem..
On some Bristol channel beaches big tides make it impossible to fish / not get cut off but shingle banks like chesil can fish its tits off on the bigger tides..
Wind direction / pressure is probably more important and a few days after a good southerly blow and then round to a westerly is a good time to fish our beaches.
I find fish are more active about an hour after high or low water when the tide starts to flood or ebb and then upto about an hour before slack water again.
Im thinking venue is probably your achilles heel mate .. target the open beaches with crab and lug for big whiting codling and pollack but expect bass, eels and flounder on crab in the estuaries.
Tides are building this week towards biggies - some people reckon the best tides are the tides just after springs on the way back down .. weather is turning this Tuesday when the tides are perfect - bloody typical !

I find those calm nights are not much cop except for the resident mini species ..
If you've done well there before then fish it again after a good onshore blow when loads of foodstuff has been dislodged - or even during a south westerly blow ( depending on venue ) as the fish move in closer looking for freebies in the surf .. good luck when you're next out either way
