Question Dover Breakwater, tips wanted!

Morning al.

I will be going to fish the Breakwater in a few weeks and was hoping for a few pointers.

I heard you need at least 7oz fixed wires and it can be snaggy.

was thinking of taking about 6-7 fixed wires, 100 lug, box a squid and a drop net I made myself.

I'm a little out of my league here as never fished it, anyone got advise?

also, which car park is it for the boat?

Many thanks.

Re: Dover Breakwater, tips wanted!

take a look in this link, gives a whole load of detail Kent fishing marks in detail fished there saturday, low water the tide ran from left to right, top of the tide it goes right to left, i fished all evening on a 5oz breakaway, and held tide everytime, but good idea to take fixed grips, car park is where the marina office is

Re: Dover Breakwater, tips wanted!

Thanks Squidy,

was also just wondering, if the boat is not going for any reason (fingers crossed it will be good weather) wanted a back up venue and was trying to decide between Folkstone Pier or the Admiralty.

got any ideas?

thanks.

Re: Dover Breakwater, tips wanted!

My own personal preferance would be Admiralty, for 2 reasons, firstly if you make the dumphead and find the boats not going, the addy is only around the corner, secondly its deeper water than folkestone pier, more so the extension, where a few coddies could well appear

Re: Dover Breakwater, tips wanted!

Fish at peg 50, a bloke in the tackle shop down there told me about this spot andI had a cracking days fishing when I went up there!!! Had fish from both inside the harbour and outside!!! 7-8 oz a must, fixed wires and as lighter line as you dare, this should reduce drag and make fishing possible. I would advice on only fishing small/medium size tides 6.5mtr and under, at least untill you have fished it a few times.

Its a cracking place to fish though and the old boys on there are really helpfull.

Tight Lines

Re: Dover Breakwater, tips wanted!

REPORT: Folkstone Pier.
High Tide: 0530

Didn't get out to the breakwater, the wind was stronger than I thought it would be and boat didn't go.

me and a mate ended up at Folkstone Pier on peg 27 / 28 which was an absoloute blessing.

Though the day we caught:

5 Dogfish approx 2lb each maybe little lower.
6 Cod which two were keepers
a small Mullet (not much bigger than my little finger)
12 Whiting which we kept 5
and a Dab

I lost two lots of tackle and my mate lost one, but that was only because we veered to the right a little, at the bend it seemed to be most snaggy. We were just a little way past that.
The wind picked up in strength later that day and was too strong, the sea turned very choppy and about 4pm we had to call it a day.

All in all, a good day.

regards.
