Please let me go to work Holy cow, what a weekend....Saturday went to Aust, Upper BC and had set up when the winds and rain gave me such a battering that I picked up my kit and ran for the car -finding that my phone had been broken in the process. Sunday, well - took the pooch along, same venue. Having a pleasent days fishing and had just put fresh bait and was about to cast when a yelp from dog made me turn. The pooch had thought he could do a sneaky one and nab the bait which was attached to a three hook flapper rig. Guys, it was the pure horror. The first hook had imbedded itself in his throat , the second was in the roof of his mouth and as I tried to do something the third was stuck in my finger. Luckily only 1,0 s but I didn,t know what to do, dog would not let me do anything as he was in shear panic. Finaly got one hook out and thr dog had bitten through the rig leaving the one in the roof of his mouth to deal with. Drove him to the local vet and he had to have an operation to remove the damned hook. £140,- later I took a sleepy pooch back home. I always give him a rollicking if he comes near the bait box. Thought he could pull a fast one before I saw him. End of story --that,s his last fishing. So as you see an expensive weekend. Altogether nearly 300 scheckels gone. But the pooch is back to his old self. Who cares about the money !!!

Re: Please let me go to work We have a lot of dog-walkers where we fish, very often the dog is 100yds or more away from the walker and they are a constant worry as the first thing they make for is the bait, we've had ours stolen many times, fortunately without any hooks embedded. You try to shoo them away and they snarl and growl at you. The owners seem to be impervious to our warnings and to be somewhat nonplussed when we say that we won't be liable for any vets bills. Non have ever offered to pay for the bait that their dog has scoffed either - they just look on it as a free snack for the pooch. The fact that we have had to pack up fishing early due to lack of bait doesn't register as being their fault either. Have you noticed that the owners never pick the cr*p up on a beach either? they expect the tide to wash it away, despite the fact that it's often above the high water line. Sorry! I do like dogs and I sympathise with you but dogs should be kept under control.

Re: Please let me go to work Jesus mate , what a bitch of a session ! Aust is naff this time of year anyway unless you like snotty eels - perhaps all the talk of us catching dogs on here was mis interpreted ![]() I wouldnt take my dog fishing - always wanted too ,but one word from me and he does what he likes ! Dog walkers can be really dumb on the beach - they casually walk up after the dog has raced over to your bivvy " it's ok he/shes freindly - just being nosey and after your sausage roll" .. Well i aint freindly when ive got to remove 2 3/0 hooks from your dogs arse because you can't control it .. In your case , like many of my mates who take their dog fishing it was just one of those things and as you say its a damn expensive accident ! glad muttley is o.k .. __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting

Re: Please let me go to work thanks Steve, was a bit of a shock. Saying aust is naff - for me yes (specially yesterday) but there was a guy about 100yrds up from me and he had a cracking session. Showed me a cracking Bass he had caught. He reckons there was nothing doing until about 100yrds out which is suprising cos normally better around 25 -30 yards. He also had a few eels and a couple of flatties too. Well, next time can only get better. And the pooch will stay at home!!

Re: Please let me go to work Severn Beach is a god cod venue. Can get something sorted later on in the year. Never had problems at Ladye Bay but if the weather is nice it always gets packed. I prefer middle of the night or when its pissing down. No-one comes along!! Battery Point in clevedon is good for cod, you have to get there early though. We can keep something in mind for autumn, Steve. Need to go out with someone who knows what they are doing anyway -I,m blanking far too often. Pooch is back to his scrounging self this morning!
