Use lobworms and i can guarantee you get something.
use lobworms and you might get a silver eel after dark .. ..the saltwater will kill them dead within a minute or so ,hence we spend 15 quid a pound on rag or lug , or dig all bloody day getting decent worms !.. lobworms don't wriggle like ragworm either so dont attract the fish as much.. bass are predators and will either go for a huge bait because they are hungry or a smaller moving bait just because they are born to hunt .
Fish early morning or during the afternoon with worms and the crabs will tear them apart seconds after hitting the water
however first light and dusk are good times when lure fishing ..
fat chopped lobworms work in freshwater but are as much use as a handbrake on a canoe in the sea ..

Exactly the same around Portsmouth mate but for some reason no one uses it and it's easy to dig.
Large lug bait fished at night close in will not fail off Southsea/Eastney, but for some reason everyone fishes large Mackerel baits or Rag.

yes thats true up where i fish everyone uses harbour rag makkie eel ect ive killed on lug worm (wen i can get it) there are loads in the estury you cant dig em though as its a reserve but makes sense if there are large beds of lug that will probably be a staple food for them
