Bait?

Hi, a friend and i are getting into peer fishing, we don't do it very seriously we just enjoy throwing the rod and get excited if we catch a tiny fish, but we wanted to know what bait is best for peers?

We've tried shrimp and mackerel and are thinking about trying cheese for a laugh

I gonna resist the 'Irish' jokes but i remember a similar thread to this which apart from comedy value for 5 seconds descended into stupidity !
