Re: brean down

brean down itself is a hike

its best fished over a low at the ends, i have heard of a few ray from there now, also codling and conger

heres a good report and pics from ian
Dedicated Angler or completely insane!!!

brean down beach is flat, the tide in and out is at walking pace, faint chance of a ray, possibly coddling as well and conger

dave

Re: brean down

I have limited knowledge of Brean Down. I can only suggest that you fish it on a small neap as the tide rip is horrendous and certainly unfishable from most spots on the big tides that we are going to have in the next few days. In all honesty you need to be fishing with somebody who knows their way around that mark as the water rises at a frightening rate even on a moderately small tide.
You will not be able to fish from the right hand end of The Down after saturdays tide and I doubt that you'll be able to fish anywhere else from there either.
You would be ok to fish Brean beach 2 and a half hours up and an hour or so back down again although its very flat and so you'll be legging it up the beach at a fair rate of knots! I've been told that the bigger the tide, the closer you fish to The Down as a rule of thumb and you will be able to dig lug worm on the beach as they are extremely plentiful.

Going back to Brean Down, it is a very strenuous climb up the steps if you are not physicaly fit and especially if you overload your self with too much gear. When you get to the top of the steps its a long walk down to the left end, 20 minutes or so and I'm not sure about the right side.
Check the mark out on google earth and phone Veals in Highbridge 01278 786934 and speak to Russ to get confirmation of what I've told you.
