| New Member - Bass Fishing Hi everyone, my name is chris and i live in cornwall, last year i was fishing from the shore with a £9.99 rod from trago mills with a cheap fladen £2.50 plug and i hooked a 4lb bass, since then i have been hooked and just want to spend every hour trying to catch them, i managed to catch another 3 but they were small so i put them back, ive tried rapala j13 plugs and all sorts lol. i have tried for the last 3 weeks every other day with a plug but no luck. can anyone tell me for shore what months bass come to the shores of our beaches. also does anyone have a list of what fish you can catch in what months of the year or is there any books with the info, i live 5 mins away from looe bar and also lots of other cornish beaches so i want to learn lots and lots more about sea fishing. ive also got a kayak which i love catching mackeral from in the summer. Any Info would be sooooooo appreciated Chris D |

| Re: New Member - Bass Fishing Welcome to the forum Chris .....your living in the right place for the Bass . Some of the best places to try from are marks where cliff edge`s butt onto a sandy beach areas, cast into the 3rd breaker back, which is where the majority of bass feed. Same goes for the surf beaches ,big crab baits into the breakers ,where the Bass are hunting. Estuary areas are good too like the Gannel in Newquay ,the Bass follow the flooding tide up scouring for food .. Spinning and plugging works well on the rock marks ,fish close in to the kelp where the bass are laying in wait to ambush pray Another species to try for is the Ballan Wrasse , on the rocky headlands ,either leger or float fish whole hardback crab in the kelp ,you get some cracking fish .. __________________ Mike.. | Re: New Member - Bass Fishing Hi Chris. I used to live in Helston when I was in the Royal Navy and working at the air station. You have some great marks near you, as you say Looe bar is great for a huge number of species. It is like a mini Chesil bank. Bass are now starting to show. Mackerel any time now, Rays and early Smoothounds are also starting to show. You will be able to fish with confidence for good sized Wrasse from the end of the month. Give it another month after that and the main summer species such as Bream, Gurnard, Red Mullet along with most other fish with the exception of Cod and Whiting, will be in. I don't know when you get the Cod in Cornwall as it seems to differ from area to area, but the whiting normally coincide with the first frosts. __________________ Check my blog for a daily fishing forecast from Weymouth, Portland, Chesil Beach & Kimmeridge Bay. www.fishingtails.co.uk |
