sandgate advice

Was thinking of doing a night session down in sandgate in kent in couple of weekends time.

Does anyone have any advice on rigs, bait, tides, anything that will reduce the chance of a blank really?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: sandgate advice

if we get a decent cold snap between now and then , the whiting and cod should start to put in an appearance and the beaches will soon be filled with lanterns and tales of monster cod !
Bait wise its lug,lug or erm.. lug plus perhaps some squid to tip it off or fish whole squid for the odd lunker .
a 2 hook clipped rig is your best bet or a pennel rig with 3/0 hooks loaded with half a dozen good worms ..

otherwise its same tactics and hope for a late flattie or the odd summer straggler

Re: sandgate advice

freshout blacks, rag or commons, tipped with macky or squid, whole side of bluey on 5/0 pulley rig would be my preffered option, or whole squid on 5/0 pulley, carefulll where you choose at sandgate though, can be a bit rocky in places there, maybe move further along to fishermans beach or stade at hythe for a less snaggy seabed

Give it a couple of weeks and a real gale to blow things up, put some colour in the water and the coddies will be anywhere from sarny bay to dunge, personally its rotunda at folkestone for me, nice deep beach behind the lorry park there

Re: sandgate advice

Yes i aggree, personally the castle, then anywhere towards rotunda. As said deeper water than hythe. As for rigs,a simple pennel pulley, only coz you will lose maybe one or two rigs, but do stand a better chance of decent fish.If you fish one rod, half a mackie or bluey at about 40yds,and the other at distance, both useing 4/0s.dungy or seasalter

Re: sandgate advice

pennels everytime, unless im fishing one of our monthly comps, then its a 3 hook flapper, with a big bait on top hook n smaller baits on bottom 2

i like to rotate between chequers @ sandwich, rotunda and hythe, dunge is to chaotic in the winter for my liking
