New reel and rod!!

Spent a really nice evening on Weymouth beach on Sunday, armed with new Reel and new rod had high expectations of a catch, I all so took my old rod and reel just in case I couldn't work out how to use the new multiplier. (abu 6500ct rocket.)
I set the mag break on max and let off the normal brake just a little, as advised by other members from the forum, cheers lad for all your help! and then cast out did not hit it out to far but didn't birds nest either, which was my main concern. So reeled it in and a few practice cast later decided to add a rig and some worm bait, loosen the mag brake a bit more and out it went again with no problems. Set up old rod and fixed spool reel, baited up and out it went, after an hour or two both my mates had caught 2 Bass each and I hadn't had a bite, after re-baiting and lots of friendly stick from the lads I finally got a bite on my old rod, all excited, so struck hard and reeled in my first ever Bream. who's laughing now!! lol
After a bit more banter about wasting money on a new rod and and reel, finally got a bite on my new rod so picked it up fast and reeled in a Bass but by this time my mates had 4 Bass each so I needed to level the scores, then noticed some fish swimming on the surface not to far out, so put on some feathers and a 3 ounce weight and cast just over the fish, then felt a sudden pull on the rod reeled it in and to my surprise was a 2 half pound Mullet, that I foul hooked through the back. Don't mind how I catch them. LOL.
Had another cast and managed to hook another that put up quite a fight and jumped 3ft out of the water on the way in, was just a bit smaller than the first but with the scores level and time getting on decided to call it a night but all in all very pleased with biggest fish and most species caught so keep laughing lads keep laughing!!

Nice one Vorney, but be careful with the new tackle... It gets addictive.

Nice rod mate and those rockets are fast should be easy enough to control with no mag brakes , just be careful

Re: New reel and rod!!

Help. Any advise on Gray`s rods 12ft 6" BZE. Want a lighter rod for the beach,my pen 15 ft, is getting hard work. Thought it would be better for bass ,macks bream, mullet etc , shorter distance casting. Anybody got one or know about them much appreciate any info. Also will a shakespeare fox reel match this rod yea or nay.
