The only bait to use for hounds is fresh peeler crab the rig to use is a penal pully made up with 2/0 hooks tightlines Alain

Not exactly true my friend , hounds will take all manner of baits from worm to squid but the better bait to use would be peeler , softback, hermit and hardback crabs , as for rigs id use a pulley rig with a single 3/0 hook on , and remember after you have caught a hound , check your hook snood as they rough them up to buggerie

lol, its only this time of year you will catch them !
this year so far ive had 3 on rag and squid - two on small hardbacks and every single one my brother caught last year were on frozen hermits but yes, to improve your chances when they are thin on the ground go for fresh or frozen peeler - dont forget to use the legs !

I also agree with Lee regarding hook size and use varivas big mouth hooks in a 3/0 ( strongest , sharpest hooks imho and fantastic for crab due to the wide gape ) but fish them usually on a pennel depending on bait size
