| west bexington Hi all,Just been up around bexi, west bay and seatown as I kept reading about it on here.Wanted to see how long it took to get there parking etc.Was there a compo on at Bexi, or is it always like that.10 AM and I counted 47 rods before i got bored.is it better at night??.I watched them (using feathers most of them) for an hour and did'nt see anything caught!! |

| Re: west bexington I expect most of what you saw were holiday makers fishing for mackerel. 47 people would not be unusual in sunny weather at this time of year. The mackerel tend to move along the beach in shoals. I usually just sit & sunbathe & only expend energy casting mackerel feathers when I see other pople starting to catch, as this means a shoal is passing. Night fishing for other species is definately better. The grockles have usually left by then to be replaced by proper anglers. __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |

West bay is a lovely harbour but like the whole 14 mile stretch its ruined by morons who fish twice a year , dump fish and litter although on the positive you will never find said morons on the beach in the winter when the decent cod and whiting are about ! The good thing i find with Abottsbury is the large car park with toilet facilities plus a cafe come national trust type building - and a walk up the wooden jetty takes 30 seconds and your there... Heading right up to the far end towards Portland you hit chesil cove where the water is deep and the pebbles change to largish boulders and good variety of species and plenty of shelter from easterly winds ![]() here is the view from chesil cove towards Abootsbury and the west ![]() Chesil has to be my all time favourite venue but still the one i fail to catch anything decent from in 20 years of trying ![]() Steve __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting |
