peeler crabs

he can anyone tell me if crabs have started peeling their shells yet,

and i was worried that if i use old tyres, slates or drain pipes and someone sees me doing it that they will grass me up for fly tipping like that bloke up north.

call me a tight ass but i just dont want to pay for them in the local tackle shop at a £1 each .

and i wont be telling anyone where i will be setting my traps so no bugger nicks my crab because im fishing in the c.i.u match at the knap in may

chin chin

Re: peeler crabs

They have down here mate. Friend of mine has been seeing them for 3 weeks now. Shame there's not fish to catch with them!

Re: peeler crabs

theres no buoyancy to the tires mate so i dont see the need to tie them kangaroos down sport...besides what you gonna tie the rope too lol !( you could connect the tyres to each other tho to prevent robbing and to keep them in situ )
Better to put them in a line so they look deliberate and use a marker on shore to guide you back to them.
It wont take long at all for shore crabs to colonise the tyre so its a matter of just how often you can get down to check them.

Re: peeler crabs

cheers steve i was going to tie them to some of the rocks on the wall to keep them in place just in case the tide takes them but as you said thers no buoyancy to them gonna go out this afternoon with the boy and see if we can get any how long do you reckon we can keep them alive for or would it be easier to just freeze them so hopefully save some money in the process tight lines
