Re: bloody bait clips

Crap mate , i use breakaway imps , releases every time , some squash the clip on the impact shield with pliers for better release

Re: bloody bait clips

impact sheilds.-
i prefer these but when you break off a new one from the plastic flashing it leaves a shard of placy stood proud on top of the clip that sometimes stops it slideing to release.
other than that its the stop bead too small and punches through the slot problem or putting hook between line and clip or exessive snood tension that causes a realease fail.

i've not used imps , but only coz sheilds give me no problems.

Re: bloody bait clips

I too have only used the impact leads, never had a problem with these but then I am not a power caster. The plastic shields always looked a bit too rough to my mind.

Re: bloody bait clips

Ive been useing impact shields for years (Breakaway shields) and they are very good release for me 100% recomend them, and i tie all my own rigs. Few tips if everyone will let me now lol. 1st make sure you push the impact shield all the way down (when your making your rig or rigs) to your lead clip, leave a tiny gap and i mean tiny. 2nd As was said dont over tighten your snood, just snug. 3rd Bait elastic, it can get caught and stop release. The 1st one i found out when it happened to me many years ago is the main reason, now releases ALL the time. Also when putting on the bead/crimp over the impict shield dont leave to big a gap or it will not release, tiny gap and i mean tiny. Get a nail on a wall as i do when making rigs and when your rig has all the bits and pieces on your trace (loose not tightened yet) get a boat lead say 1 pound and put that on the bottom of the rig or rigs (Any clipped down rig) and you will never have that prob ever again but that goes with all the above in mind. Try it and get back to the forum and let us all know how you get on. It does work. But if you still have probs use an impact lead, with all the above bar the boat lead for the impact lead(You have to use impact lead to get it right) Thats one for you and one for me. Ps No need to cut anything on the impact shield, its bullet proof as it is.

Re: bloody bait clips

Tie yourself up an extra 2 as shown above. No need for fingers crossed, as above it will realease All the time, i promise you. I use 3 hook clipped down rigs and the bottom snood is 2 foot and all is done with impact shield at the bottom and (Breakaway) a cascade swivel for the 2nd snood and a standard swivel for the top snood and 100% release everytime. If the impact shield fails on that rig all snoods will not release, but it does release everytime. The rigs you have tied last night would not give me confidence more by luck= no fish or the one the big one could be passing and it will just swim past. Its only 11.15am plenty of time to tie 2 rigs up, normaly i tie 4 rigs of each. Up to you though mate. Tight lines
