Beach Casting.

I went to Chesil beach yesterday at high tide and couldn't cast out past where the waves were breaking, the sea was rough and the wind was blowing straight towards me I only had 4oz weights and that was a problem but is there any other things that I should consider when casting ie... weights and rigs whats the best for getting a good cast and any tips on technique ??
Many thanks !

Re: Beach Casting.

i would suggest you clip your hookbaits down and make sure the weight you are casting is suitable for the rod.

chesil on a full southerly was always going to be tough, bet the casting was ok, but conditions make it seem loads worse

Re: Beach Casting.

step up your lead size........to 175gram at least, hit it hard and cast lower , this will lessen the effect the wind has

as soon as the lead hits the sea, take up the slack line and get the rod tip high up to lessen the effect big waves will have...........

if its reallt really bad....go home and wait for the sea to calm or wind ease a bit and then fish..usually a great time !!!!!!

Re: Beach Casting.

if your off to chesil , watch the waves mate........all steep shingle beaches can be dangerous places in the type of weather were having.........SAFETY first , fish second

theres gona be some good catches during this weather, just take care all !!

Re: Beach Casting.

it is always difficult to cast into a head wind, what sort of reel are you using, and secondly i suggest you practice tour casting technique on a field.
