| Hi all, Just a small report and hopefully some advice. Went for a drive today in the New Forest and unintentionally ended up in Milford on Sea (never been or heard of it before). Had no idea we would end up at the coast but as I always keep rod and tackle in the car and as I have a very understanding missus and it was such a lovely day that I got the gear out. Had no bait so thought I would try lures and feathers, yep I know it’s a little early for macky but thought hell I would give it ago. Ok after and hour and half I didn’t hook anything but did have one decent knock. Now I do fancy going there again for a day / night session in the next couple of weeks. Can anyone give me some tips on species / baits and gear I should be using? Cheers, Steve |

| Re: Milford on sea hi m8, i guess you were at the needles eye cafe - the white house beach. reports have been patchy lately but rays/ bream / & possibly turbot are on the cards from now onwards. plus all the usual suspects , dogs/pout etc. check for reports from, 'the white house', 'needles eye cafe', 'paddys gap' & 'hurst shingle bank'. that should give you an idea of whats about at the moment in that area. this area is affected by strong tides & weedy conditions as summer progresses. which will be worse on spring tides but not quite as bad as the shingle bank. night fishing probably most productive, for spinning i'd pick a dawn or dusk high water. suggested baits,- mackerel, sandeel, rag worm, squid, gear- standard beach caster rated up to 5-6oz unless spinning. grip leads will be required when the tide is running hard. if your still not holding bottom- cast short or wait a couple of hours for the tide to ease, i never worry about distance here as the bream n bass run close, ive used carp rods for this but the amount of weed at times is just too much for a light rod. __________________ beer so many venues, so little time. |
