The elastic stop goes on the line above the float this is used to set the depth you wish to fish at. An elastic band or some mono line tied as stop knot with a bead can be used.
As for keeping it set up shouldn't be a problem there

Depending on the size of the hole (I am guessing it has the hole right through it) mono is far better than the rubber float stops as they perish far too quickly, and yes you should be able to leave it set up between trips.
Cheers Steve

what do you use the bead for ? i just use a thicker fishing line to make a knot, an elastic band works just as well but i find elastic knots slip easily

If you use an elastic band or slip knot then you can vary your depth. This is essential when trying to find the correct depth when float fishing.

yeh i know, you can still slide a know made of line towards and away from your float to vary depth. hope that makes sense. i just find that elastic knots get pushed up the line easier than line knots. i think it just comes down to trial and error and what you are comfortable with

My advice for all float fishing when you need an adjustable depth buy yourself some pole elastic. Doesn't damage the line (yes strong line won't be affected so bad) and can be moved up and down easily. Will even last a while between trips too.

Re: how do i set up my float kit???

If you use nylon don't cut the ends off too short. An inch or two goes through the rings as the nylon folds back on itself. Too short and the nylon acts like an anchor and sticks in the line. You don't need to be using heavy nylon either , for stops anyway.

Re: how do i set up my float kit???

Pole elastic is coloured elastic that course match anglers use when fishing long poles of 9 metres and over. Id is basically a silicone elastic in several metres of length for a couple of quid (see ebay for such items) I have found it excellent because it grips tightly without burning the line if it is slid up and down the line.
It's best to check the thickness types in a shop face to face so you get the one you want as they come in different ratings (the thicker ones are higher in number).
