| Re: flattie fishing I have caught a lot of flattie's and I would go for 3 or even 4 hook flapper rigs, small hooks, as the mouths are much smaller than yting/cod. They will eat, lug, blacks, herring, mackerel... most bait in fact. I prefer lug or blacks tho. They do like shiny beads and things but one trick if making your own rigs is to tie small half knots into the rig line (2 per hook length) as this will spin and reflect in the sea. This won't cost you anymore when making your rigs as well! Sounds strange but works, been passed through my family for years! |

| Re: flattie fishing 3 hook flapper 12- 20" snoods size 4 hooks/ Rag tipped with small section of frozen mackerel/ 2-4oz rolling lead or gripper if tide is moveing to fast but rolling 1st. Now it would be nice if i could get a well done on my casting post as i have given top tips to you all and i mean top tips, and well done to catches even in the coarse section towhich i dont even do. Fair is fair, why should i bother if you all dont. I am a very experienced shore angler and i dont ask for much in return, but a bit off give and take wouldnt go a miss. I am far from all talk. Sorry guys but it had to be said, whats the point showing pictures without how i caught it what rod, bait etc etc. If you can get fresh mackerel for flatties if the fish are there its the best bait by far. | Re: flattie fishing I'm sure everyone appreciates your great advice and tips Stud, I certainly do! Thats one of the reasons why i'm on this forum, to gain advice from senior fishermen and experts. I'd like to express what knowledge I've learnt too others where I can also. Keep up the great work, mate! |

| Re: flattie fishing I am far from an expert, sometimes it might come accross that way but far from it or a know it all, but what angler gives away all of his secrets, and the ones that count. Its not just rod and line that catch fish and its that info that will have the novice in the hunt for the prizes. There is so much more to catching fish off the shore than chuck it in and hope for the best, allthough hit a beach on the right night and it can be great fun. This is to help those that dont know, and not to annoy those that do. I am shareing from a kind heart, as lee says a bit forcefull, "towhich i dont mean it to sound that way guys" and just to get my point accross. Pingu sent me a pm and said he found it weird when i said listen to me and get to the point paul etc, thats what the apoligy was for. You will see what i mean as time goes on, all i would like is to have anglers that dont know catching fish when experienced shore anglers are and in opens. There are loads of other posts to come and at this time off year is the right time to learn. I will only give info as if i was fishing myself and that gives me a great buzz. And i know you will catch plenty of fish from tips given, these are tips that caught me alot of fish so i know you will too. Preperation is the key when fishing dies off, ie now is the time to be sorting everything out, tackle, traces etc and not the night before you go. Tight lines. Yours in sport always Paul ![]() ![]() |
