good start,then a struggle

got to the lake at 0130 this morning and was soon comfortable in one of my favourite swims
the rain of late has swelled the local river which then through a couple of sluices started filling the lake, this now was at least a foot higher then i have seen it for ages and probably had an adverse effect on the sport.
had no action during the early hours until 0500 when my left hand rod with a dead roach under a marginal tree went off,
on the strike i immeadiately thought it was a jack as it came in very easily but it all of a sudden woke up and proved it wasnt small at all by tailwalking right in front of me and taking the lines from my other 2 rods at the same time,
well after a great deal of sodding about it was landed and weighed at a very satisfactory 15lb 8oz

next action was at 0700 when i had another take from the same tree on a perch deadbait this time,it was unhooked in the water and was about 5lb
couldn't get a touch after that, they just didn't want to know.my mate 2 swims up was getting the odd fish on his artificials including the fish of the day at 19lb 10oz, but i didn't get a sniff on my lures
had a short drop back at 1.45 which ended with a fish of about 7lb this came on a half herring, that was the end of the action
it was a bit of a grueller ,had to work hard for my fish but not a bad result
i'm sure there will be tougher days ahead

Nice one mate, that's a belting fish.

Tell me though, when was the last time you had a fish before 5am? I seem to remember you making a comment about never getting stupid early fish, so why'd you keep doing it to yourself???? Fair play, you've got more stamina than me mate!

Nice report mate...

you are dead right, that 15 was the first fish i have had in darkness this season,it is becoming clear to the lake regulars that the bigger fish in some places are becoming nocturnal, one of my friends had 2 twenties in one night a couple of weeks ago,so i think its worth sticking at it
