don't you just love it when ...

a plan comes together
although i have been having a certain ammount of success with old esox recently,it has been noticeable that the fish
i have had and those of my friends fishing the same area that they have nearly all been of the same size range
all falling between 8 and 12 pounds,
i heard that a guy lure fishing in another part of the lake caught 10 or 12 1 to 2 pound jacks while lure fishing, this
is interesting as we havn't had any of those lately and if i want to catch a real biggie then a place where loads of jacks
are being caught is the place, lets face it ,a 2 pound jack is an easy meal for a 30lb pike.
with this in mind i set off this morning at loony o'clock to fish this different area,i havn't fished there for a few years
and is quite a trek
the first obstacle is a railway line, you have to negotiate a switchback type gate with your trolley,
i got through the gate ok but the handle decided to come off my trolley half way across the lines, what a mess, all
my gear strewn everywhere just waiting for a night train to demolish it,
thankfully nothing came along and i was eventually in my chosen swim and fishing by 0430,
i had a couple of half hearted takes before light ( eels maybe ) but i was fishless still by sunrise, and what a beaut it was too

just after 8 i got my first fish,i had just repositioned my trout deadbait under a marginal tree ,it didnt even give me time to out the
rod in the rest before it sped off,a nice little jack of about 5lb was the result

i had just finished my morning coffee at 0915 when i got a slow take on my right hand rod,i was just about to strike it when the left one
went off like an express train this was placed under the tree again this time with a legered scad,
2 runs at the same time,it doesn't happen very often,i struck the first one to set the hooks and picked up
the second one which was trying its best to get to the other side of the lake,
this was obviously a good fish and it did all it could to get in the tree roots all around the swim,it gave me a tremendous
battle and once netted it didn't stop even then, one of those fiesty fish that never seems to give up
now i have been experimenting with the timer on my camera, the first pic came out fine, but this sod just wouldn't behave so i had to
be content with a pic on the unhooking mat.it went 16lb 2oz.

as with the reat of the lake it all went quiet for the rest of the morning, you never seem to catch a pike between 9 and 12.
got my next bit of sport from a nice fish of 11lb 1oz which fell to a spinnerbait ( i really do love these lures )

normally i would be quite happy with that,2 doubles in a day,but i got greedy,at half past one a had a big drop back on a
legered lamprey section fished at range which gave a good account of itself but thankfully behaved on the bank for
a pic,this one went 14lb 10 oz

i fished hard for the rest of the afternoon and evening finally packing up at 6.30.without any more action
but it didn't matter, its been a good day,i will certainly have worse this winter
