The next time you go northen pike
fishing try what I use large spinner bait with copper blades
diamond shaped I like to put on a 3 or 4 inch steel leader.
This works for me I don't like useing live bait if I can avoid it.

My biggest problem is holding the fish I see a lot of people
hold them in sling nets I have a little Jon boat not much room
for gear. I will hold them by the the back of head but when I
get a bigger one I can not hold them tight enuff.
What is the best way do hold them by the gills without hurting
the fish or me??
I fish mostly in Mass.
