nice pint and pike presevation

well after a few false starts today eventually made it out
after trip to works office had a free hour so dived to the exeter canal at the double locks, great pub by canal side, nice pint of otter straight from the wood

then sit by canal and try for mr pike

sorry had to get a pint in picture

nothing here so went up canal a bit saw 2 young guys fishing otherside had said had a follow on his feeder as was fishing for roach.

so stood and had a spin, nothing happening so went back to get car and get home for kids
as getting back to where lads were I saw 1 with rod bent over, and then brought up a nice pike about 5-6lb

But this is where problems started
he wa fishing for the pike after seeing me try using his feeder rod and a small trout spinner direct on 3lb line
all credit that he brought it too the bank, but then he got it in net and seeing me drive up in car ran towards us flaileing the net and pike all over the place so as to show me his fish
then they lay it straight on tarmac road , and was going to use his foot to stop it moving , as he didnt want to hold it, neither did his mate, at which point i moved in, unhooked the fish(easy as very lightly hooked) then quick hold up infront of guy for his tophy shot before releasing, where fortunately it swam off well

tried to tell guys how to care for these fish but seeing there keepnet was out of water and all roach dead guess was a lost cause but i tried

just hope some of what i said went into these kids

I will be back reall soon to try again myself though as know some big crocks here

Re: nice pint and pike presevation

Some of the kids just don't have any respect for wildlife/fish .....they shouldn't be allowed to fish until they passed a test in how to handle fish before letting them loose with a rod/reel

Oops, besides that nice report/pics....which made me go to the fridge now lol

Nice report Dave.
So the kids showed you how it was done again eh mate. Better luck next time.
I agree with Claudia, we should have some sort of watercraft test in the uk before you get a rod licence. They've been doing that in Germany for years & it works OK over there.

Re: nice pint and pike presevation

what beat me was just their complete lack of thought for the fish

Now I will admit I was a bit woosie with the first pike I caught when trying to unhook as they do have big teeth , but did try not too harm it

what has angered me is these guys didnt care about it or the other catch which they had just left too die
funny feeling quite upset about their actions now after relating to mrs and others
time for another beer i think

Re: nice pint and pike presevation

Unlucky about the fishing mate. Nice report though.

Your first photo show the spot where I caught my one and only pike. I was on the opposite bank to the pub. You second photo show the spot where my mate had a 6 lb'er, right next to the pontoon on the left.

Strangely enough the only two bl**dy pike I've seen all year.....

Rich.

Re: nice pint and pike presevation

Shouldn't they have been at school? We've all got to try and educate them (easier said than done, I know). Just tell them that what they are doing is wrong. Show them the right way.

Then they'll probably tell you to F-off etc etc..................

I don't really know what you can do apart from that. There are certain people who will listen to you and others who won't.
