| What am I doing wrong Today was my 7th Pike fishing session this year and once again I blanked. I had runs and I know that the pike were there because I seen them jumping out of the water after the Roach shoals at Warmell. I have tried every conceivable dead bait and I have tried Roach live baits to no avail. It is not as if I am a novice angler and don't no what to do. I just can not hook a Pike. Any help most welcome. |

| Re: What am I doing wrong Ok......as most fish its all to do with timing. Dont leave the pike too long with the bait (after the first indication) or you'll end up deep-hooking it, wind down slowly until you feel a solid weight on the end of your line then lift into it.....dont snatch at it, just raise your rod nice and smooth. If you still miss takes heres a tip that should all but eliminate the problem. This trace is not conventional but beleive me it works!! First of all attach a single rider hook (size 4) at the end of your wire with a crimp leaving a 2 inch tail, next take a size 6 treble and thread it onto the wire, thread a crimp onto the 2 inch tail you have left and pull the big long main wire through the crimp, trim off. You should have a size 4 single rider hook on the end of your trace and a size 6 treble running free on a 2 cm loop. What you do is attach the rider hook to your deadbait and leave the treble swinging free, every time you strike the treble connects with the corner of the mouth and no more missed takes!! Ive been using this for a long time but if you are still a bit confused by my instruction a guy wrote into AT with the same idea and there is also a diagram.....he must have been having the same probs as you guys and like i used to....its deadly!! ![]() __________________ "I LOVE THE SMELL OF ESSOX IN THE MORNING!!" | Re: What am I doing wrong Wow. A stinger hook, I wouldn'tve thought of that for pike!! __________________ A bad day fishing is better than a good day working! Fishing: if it were easy, it'd be called "Catching" http://www.flickr.com/photos/omahayank/sets/ |

| Re: What am I doing wrong Hey PP.!! You will find the actual diagram in the Angling Times for last week mate...ok? It is a killer rig for hooking wary pike and pike who tend to 'mouth' baits. Hope you have half the success i've had with this rig......stay lucky mate!! __________________ "I LOVE THE SMELL OF ESSOX IN THE MORNING!!" (Thats essox, not socks !!) |

| Re: What am I doing wrong mikey has covered it very nicely, the rig he described is very good and i recommend it to everyone, don't worry too much about it pp,we all have bad spells, you are not a novice you have said that. but don't overlook the power of the lure, i don't know the water you are fishing but in my experience if the water is getting a pounding,ie pike fishermen on the bank every day, the pike do seem to get a little tackle shy at this time of year, if they are active i would make sure the hooks are sharp on your lures and have an hour or two plugging. its amazing sometimes they might shy away from fish baits but they can't resist an artificial give it a bash next time mate. i look forward to hearing results |
