Talking Re: Another Pike Session on Sunday

I'm going to go down on the King's Sedgemoor Drain again, but another Pikey area.

About a mile and a half from one of the bridges, because they always get hammered this time of year. My pal is always telling me ( Also as Mikey-1001 has said ) get as far away from these as you can, but they are worth a try on a midweek session when there is no-one around.

Maybe i'll get into double figures this time....who knows

Re: Another Pike Session on Sunday

The success of most piking trips (with big fish in mind) is the planning. If you work out were to go first and what tactics you will use you will waste less time and so have more time for fishing. Locating the big fish is another matter though ,in my opinion its alot to do with being in the right place at the right time but you can always improve your chances of a specimen by considering the time of year ,the condition of the water your fishing and by selection of bait.

Obviously theres more to it than that but if you take in these factors it will improve your chances considerably, another tactic that i consider very obvious but that alot of guys neglect and that is to approach your swim very quietly (and dont fish next to a main road!!) as often theres big pike lying tight to your bank or even under it in an overhang, ive taken a good few bonus fish by just freelining a deadbait over the edge before i move all my gear into the swim.

Re: Another Pike Session on Sunday

now bridges are a double edged sword in my opinion during the winter they attract both fish and anglers .the fish are attracted as its a structure and anglers are attracted because A: they know fish are attracted to them.
B:because they are easy accessible .
now their are certain times when i think you should fish em and thats if the bait fish shoals are bigger than normal and when other anglers start to tell you ( no point fishing there they are pressured ) i have over the years kept my eyes on certain bridge area that in the past have had a reputation on throwing up the odd big fish .
one drain in question was renowed for throwing up a very big pike this time of year and i had kept an eye on it, and anglers had stop fishing it because of it being a pressured spot i stepped in and promptly produce a 28lb pike along with six smaller doubles. and anglers then started fishing it again .
another example was in my zedding an extra big shoal of roach had moved in and took up residence under and around the bridge again i took my chances and fished it and had a 14lb plus zed .
yes i agree that if these are being hammered every day then its best to move to new area but they can still pay dividends if fished under right circustances . so don,t dismiss them all together .
