Re: Methods..... Rigs and Things

thats no problem
i,m assuming from what you say the drains you fish are are probably quite straight with the the odd bend or kink in there length which will adoubtely slow the water down and can be really good spot to fish but as they will be similar to the drain of the fens my post (featureless fens) might be help to you where i talk about some of the less obvious feature you may look out for
and also very obvious features as well but there is spot that you not think about fishing which on my drains i think are very important and reletive and thats where matches are held where a lot of bait is put in and big catches of silver fish are taken in turn this will attract predators ,or where bream anglers also fish again they will intraduce ground bait inturn this will attract fish and once again it will draw predators to the area i also posted on here( prebaiting for zeds ) this also might help and make you think of own situation that might be relevant help in you having some really good days fishing i hope

tight lines
baitmaster

Re: Methods..... Rigs and Things

What i normally take smoothy is my 4, 12 ft ,3lb t/c wychwood carp rods (i prefer the carp rods for piking as i think the extra 'tippiness' gives an advantage playing directly under the tip) i have a shakespear team seat box with the sherpa strap system which allows you to wear it like a rucksack and that holds everything apart from my rod-pod and seat (i dont use my box as a seat as im constantly in it for this and that so i have a seperate light weight fold away seat i use) but they go in my rod hold all anyway so all i'm carrying is the holdall and the box on my back.

I find this handy as if i set up in a swim that proves un-productive i can just toss everything back into the box ,keep the rods set up and move on to the next swim........sort of a semi-mobile aproach! In the summer though when i hit the lures and other artificials i just carry one 6ft 30-60g rated plugger rod and a shoulder bag with my lures, plugs etc. I love this type of piking as it gives you so much freedom and flexibility i dont even take the chair in summer so those of you that had me down as a lazy angler think again......!! LOL !!

Cool Re: Methods..... Rigs and Things

Cheers Mikey,

I now own a Wychwood rucksack(medium size) rod quiver..........Xmas presents.

I have gone for 2.75lb Carp rods and some Shimano baitrunners that I use for light sea fishing and heavy plugging work anyway. rod rests and a couple of bite alarms.

A Box for bits and pieces a few Old Pole winders with rigs wound onto them cool bag and stuff. Lightweight chair for falling asleep on

I want to fish light as some of the swims I target are a fair old walk from civilisation i.e .....BRIDGES.....

So i'm set ( I think)

So thanks guys for all your help and advice.....all i gotta do now is get some serious fishing in!
