Pike / Spinning reel recommendations

Well winter is truly on its way..... and with it I hope to try my hand at a little pike fishing (for the first time ) so I've brought myself a very cheap spinning rod (python 270, gr 10-30) I just need a reel to go with it has anyone got any cheap suggestions (has to be cheap the wife is already moaning at my fishing expenses this year )

Thanks in advance

Magik

Re: Pike / Spinning reel recommendations

Ok mate........if i was you i would stick to the wychwood rogue range. All my gear is Wychwood ,ive been piking for many years and it does the damage ,if you have a butchers at my p/b pic you will see what i'm on about!! lol..... Wychwood do an Extremis range which is dearer and is what i use but i think that you will find there rogue RD-40 will do the job if youre after a lure/plug/jerk reel or i would go with the rogue FREESPOOL 40 or 50 or if youre drifter fishing or doing alot of long range work the 60 will fit the bill nicely.
I find that there reels are perfectly balanced and feel good in your hand, you can play fish off the clutch with confidence and i find that there torpedo shaped wooden handgrips prevent slippage and also dont get too cold on those frosty mornings!! lol Also the brushed aluminium and stainless steel look the part too ,or if your not too flash Harry you get an interchangable graphite spool thrown in all for round about £40.00........happy piking!!
