Exclamation Winter On The Way!!

Its been a great summer for me what with a decent amount of essox in the bag,no personal bests but its been a good active few months up at Edgelaw res. Which brings me to the point of this post: winter piking!! I love it and the signs are starting already, the nights drawing in a bit, the air a touch cooler the water level starting to rise again on the reservoir.
Summer pikings great because the fish are fired up and lets face it ,they'll almost have a go at anything: lures, deads, big flys that look like the end of a mop!! And all thats great sport dont get me wrong but i love the challenge of a good winter session. Picture the scene; a clean crisp frost on the ground, a nip in the air, a touch of thin ice in the margins, the sun low in the sky almost sitting on the horizon !! Im getting carried away here, its only nearing the end of september but it wont be long and those of you who know how fanatical i am about my piking will understand.
Of course we all know that the pike puts on a good bit extra weight in the winter months which appeals to us all, you might have to work a bit harder and wait a bit longer for your takes but in most cases its worth it with the majority of anglers hitting there p.b's in the winter months. The cold weather dosn';t even put me off in fact i love sitting there in all my thermal camo gear warm as toast when its just hovering at freezing..........oh bring it on !! Oh yeah............must remember to dust of the stove and hand warmers too!!

Re: Winter On The Way!!

i totally agree, apart from an occasional good fish i have had a bit of a disappointing summer, quite frankly i hav'nt known where to go in the last couple of weeks, all my regular haunts have been fishing cack lately.
all i can say is roll on the winter piking and the chilly days and nights.
who knows i might even venture out to the "real" darkside --" THE SEA " ! ! ??

Re: Winter On The Way!!

Should be getting in a few sessions this winter. Only had 2 this winter, missed a few runs and landed a small jack on an ondex.

Also can't wait for beach fishing!!
