Question Walleye Or Pike ?????

Someone please help 'cause i am seriously confused !! As alot of you will know i have pike fished for years and it is by far my favourite species this being the case i was pissed off when in the middle of a poker tournament online the other night some American who lived by lake Eyrie (which is why we got round to talking about fishin' !) told me that walleye and pike were the same fish ????? I knew that our freinds across the pond called pike "northern pike" but i was always sure walleye was a seperate species, anyway the argument got more serious as i was more and more sure i was right and the result was that i lost £100 so can someone please tell me once and for all whats what ???? PLEEEEEEEEEEASE !!

Smile Re: Walleye Or Pike ?????

walleye are in the Sander family (prob why you call them zander) and pike are the Esox family. They are not the same.

Re: Walleye Or Pike ?????

That guy must not know fish to much. I can tell you for a fact that a Walleye is not a Pike. They don't look anything alike. The comon mixup that Walleye are involved in is Walleye and Yellow Perch. In case that person happens to read this, A YELLOW PERCH IS NOT A WALLEYE. A YELLOW PERCH IS NOT A PIKE. A hundred Quid well lost I guess. Cheers!
