Spawning

Could anyone settle an ambiguity that I have?

I have been researching pike behaviour according to the season to improve my fishing. However, I have become a little confused. I have read that when the ice thaws in Canada the pike begin to prepare to spawn. It has frozen over hear and look like it may stay that way for several days/weeks, will the British pike start to begin spawning preparations when it thaws or do they spawn at the same time of year despite conditions. Please could someone with the correct knowledge or experience help me with this one. so many people have written so much contradicting material that I just give up.
