Float rig

At last, I think I know what I'm doing with a sliding float rig, but one last thing: would it be worth suspending the dead bait off the floor?
And if so, how would I do this? Would I just move the stop knot further down?

Re: Float rig

This makes sense to me - however not so sure - i'm due to try a bit of slider float fishing myself (learning) - i'd say though that the stop knot needs to be TIGHT ENOUGH to hold the bait off floor - may need more TURNS on the knot to achieve this ??
Let us know how you get on.
Martin.

Re: Float rig

Have a look for some gummy beads, they fit onto the line above the float and can be altered to suit the depth, these will go through the rod eyes so you can fish deeper than the rod length, made in various sizes, from micro to extra large.
You have to thread them up the line using the carrier they are supplied with, as the bore hole is small for it to grip the line.

have fun

Re: Float rig

Hi Chris - guessing you mean using these IN PLACE of a stop knot - I'll be using these on Hol's with 18lb (0.38mm diameter mono') so presume i'll have to buy these specifically for this - or are they suitable on a range of line diameters ??
Martin. (will be away for new year so all the best)

Re: Float rig

yep you do use instead of a stop knot, some are round others like a blunt maggot, ovaled, better shape IMO, you will need to get extra large for that diameter line, can give you a link if you cant find 'em.

Re: Float rig

here you go :
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1707528800...84.m1439.l2649

had trouble sorting out size, i couldn't find the button for size choice, sent e-mail after i ordered. sorted

you may find local shops only sell the smaller sizes, but good luck.

Re: Float rig

Thanks chris - seen the pic' there's 15 stops in each pack of 3 - guess you break one of as you need it (like you do with bait/pellet bands) ?? & also need the carrier as a tool to slide & adjust the depth ??
Guess you keep the carrier handy (not part of actual rig) ??
Sorry if seem a bit thick - Never used sliding floats before - always changed to bottom fishing in the past if water is too deep for normal float tactics.

Re: Float rig

lol, no you thread your mainline through the loop, fold it back on itself, then slide the stop up and over your mainline, when the mainline shows hold the mainline then slide up untill the tag comes through, then slide to depth required. hope that clarifies it, if not come back.
good 'ere ennit.
