Hi all,

I do a fair bit of lure fishing for pike but i am looking to buy rod a reel that can cope with heavy/big lures.

If you have any recommendations i would be very grateful.

Cheers

Kev

Re: Which pike rod and reels for heavy lures?

I had the same problem myself having never boat fished but done plenty of lure fishing from the bank!
I came across an almost new E.T Gator 6ft 6" and Abu 6501 c4 multiplier reel loaded with 80lb braid which has only been used a couple of times too! I even got with the deal a nice selection of jerkbaits and soft lures upto 150g the rod is stated as 28g to 140g but I have been told by a few hardened jerkbait fans I have got myself a great outfit only used it a couple of times so far with only a couple of small fish to show for the effort but to say I'm pleased would be an understatement and I can't wait to get a big girl on the end!
the reel is excellent but I have already been looking at getting a one piece just for the big big lures and E.T do a cracking rod but I am being pushed towards Dave Lumb rods as they do some very tasty looking rod's and depending on your pocket they do some to suit all types and as yet I have not heard a bad thing against any!

Thanks for that. I had a look at those rods and they look great. One rod that caught my eye was the Wychwood Agitator jerkbait rod. Very good value at only £40! I have the lighter version for fishing small drains and am very happy with that.

I also have the wychwood agitator and I have to say it has been bulletproof. It has coped with everything I have asked of it.
