a stroll along the canal

well decided to see what the weed was like on the canal

hopped on bike yesterday , the section between the boathouse/swingbridge is thick but moveing...all along by water works is solid..like kilns thick. boats horrible as birds walking on top...boats to lock keepers cottage is broken, then pretty thick down to turfs where is pretty much solid as well

so headed up the canal, its fairly clear from swing bridge to double locks then clear all up after that

bend above double locks

bend just before stinking meat incinerator plant

the water is gin clear, underwater weed is high so i tried several poppers surface lures and even a plastic frog but not even a follow..dont think the bright sunshine helped. see if go on cloudier day

plenty of small rudd and baitfish about near double locks which is a good sign

lovely afternoon , and saw a couple of lovely new spots screaming out for a float and dead bait

just thought would post weed info for others

Re: a stroll along the canal

Cheers for the heads up dave, may have to have to have a look when I return from holidsy next week! Ive never fished the section between the swingbridge and double locks, fished the rest either side so wouldnt mind a look, at least theres a pub for a couple of cold ones!

Re: a stroll along the canal

Thanks Dave - will start dusting the cobwebs off the surface lures in next couple weeks. Was thinking bout goin yesterday, as I did text you to see what it was like, (thanks for the quick replies too), so ended up chucking bag of mixer in boot, and spent evening on the lake catching couple carp off the top.
May see you, or Count Zero down the canal in the coming months.

Re: a stroll along the canal

the lockable gate is right at start of track by main road and its a proper sturdy job too

seems will be starting to be locked from next week possibly

details of access will then be on exeter site

was rude not to have a quick 2hr dabble today ( and quick catch up and plans with TJ )

had a 1/2 take on a dead..not sure how TJ ended up as i had to become dads cab for daughter

Re: a stroll along the canal

Thanks for info Dave. I did phone the canal office. The key will be available via Exeter angling club apparently, but unsure how they will work that so anglers can get in and out? Hope it dont put the mockers on any early morning starts I may have planned. Shame the take didnt develop. Typically I am not able to get down to the canal at the moment. Wedding anniversary tomorrow, so taking the missus out tomorrow, and for meal/drink in the evening - taking her fishing isnt the ideal anniversary gift methinks!!
