Floating a deadbait off the bottom

Hey Guys,

I'm new to pike rigs and my local fishing tackle shop recommended Drennan Sub Floats for floating my dead bait off the bottom of the fish bed which I am going to have to try as I have just found out the loch we are fishing is infested with Cray Fish (yay) although reviews still say Pike are aplenty in there.

Anyways my question is this do any of you guys know any rigs for floating a dead bait using a drennan I could throw something together but recommendations would be very welcome :-D

Thanks guys!!

Kind Regards,

Chris

Re: Floating a deadbait off the bottom

many ways of doing it using submerged floats but one way is just a decent length of trace and stuff it with pollly balls :)

Re: Floating a deadbait off the bottom

If you have never unhooked one before I think there's some vids on you-tube that can help.

Decent forceps are a must

Re: Floating a deadbait off the bottom

Yeah I've watched as many vids as I can find on you tube in regards to unhooking them I'd be comfterble doing it I have forceps and a un hooking mat, beign the bank holiday weekend I'm hoping there'll be another couple of Pike fishermen about in case I get stuck my first time unhooking though. I can't see any major difficulties though :)

thanks for pointing it out though!

Re: Floating a deadbait off the bottom

well as for pop ups , best way for me was ,use just the right amount of cork ,inserted into the bait (test in a bucket ) just the right amount to lift the bait off the bottom saves money less rig for the fish to see

also try bait ,with a glug of fish oil froze in bag with traces ,a old nev flick trick. top tip from me ,slow results from heavy fished water ,fish at night ,your be amazed by the results mate

did use injected bait alot from air into the swim bladder ,to baits full of oils ,cast into (lakes with streams(inlet flowing into them ) hope this helps coco and saves you some money and increases your catch rate

all the best
